2017 Wilco Round-the-island Relay Race
The Wilco Company started to host the Vanuatu round-the-island relay race in 2010. With the continuous development and maturity of the Wilco Company and the continuous maturity of the competition, people from all walks of life are actively participating. There are more than 300 athletes. The Wilco Round-the-island relay has become one of the most influential and well-known sports events in Vanuatu. This year, a total of eight local renowned companies sponsored this grand event, and major newspapers and radio stations publicized the race.
2017 witnessed the eighth event the round-the-island relay race held by Wilco Company (the second after the acquisition of Wilco Company). There were 30 teams registered for the race this year (22 teams participate in the round-the-island relay race and 8 teams participate in the MINI relay race). The women's team and the social team started at 5:00, the mixed team of men and women started at 5:30, and the men's team started at 6:00. The whole journey was about 117.32 kilometers and ten players completed the relay. The student team and the staff team ran ten laps around the Company building at 11:00, and the whole journey was about 22 kilometers. We called it the MINI relay race.
In this relay race, winners of the men's team, the women's team, the mixed team and the social team respectively took 7 hours and 44 minutes, 10 hours and 37 minutes, 8 hours and 22 minutes and 10 hours and 25 minutes. All the 22 teams participating in this race completed the competition. The local biggest radio station FM107 conducted a full live broadcast. Harry, the radio anchor was very excited, he said that the race was a big success. The Independence Daily also praised the organization and coordination for the race. It was the only race that was recognized by all the participating teams ever.
As the last team member reached the destination, the relay race had come to a successful conclusion. Wilco Company's annual round-the-island relay race was a good example of Wilco Company's love and support for local sports and public welfare undertakings. It further promoted the Company's corporate spirit of “integrating into the local communities and giving back to the society”, enhanced the Company's reputation and established good image of Chinese enterprises.
